We generally credit ourselves with far more intelligence than we actually have.  In general, our success as species has been less to do with our skill, and more to do with the random selection of actions by circumstance.  This leads to the recognition that diversity leads to resiliency and advancement, and so diversity must be a central tenet of the good.
